Yokohama
Yokohama is an international port city, the third largest city in Japan after Tokyo and Osaka, and the winner of the first World Smart City Awards (WSCA) in 2011. Due to the relative scarcity of Japanese resources and frequent natural disasters, Yokohama naturally belongs to the energy-saving smart city model in this context. The Yokohama Smart City Project (YSCP)mainly implements smart energy management for homes, buildings and communities by introducing a large number of renewable energy and electric vehicles. Yokohama City is a large commercial city with a population of 3.7 million, and there are many commercial buildings in the city center. Since April 2010, it has been selected by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry as " The Next Generation Energy and Social System Confirmation Area".
Smart City Projects
Smart Energy Management HEMS Energy management system refers to the realization of energy visualization and management according to the specific environment. Yokohama is an energy-saving smart city model. Yokohama smart city project mainly introduces renewable energy and electric vehicles to implement smart energy management for families, buildings and communities. In order to call on families to participate in smart city projects and implement large-scale energy-saving action experiments, the government provides subsidies for citizens to set up a home energy management system (HEMS), with new buildings and existing buildings as its subsidy objects.
Smart Apartment Among the smart city projects in Yokohama, the building energy management system construction is the most representative. Based on the energy management system of the comprehensive building, it carries out unified and optimal management of the power and heat energy of the large-scale office buildings and commercial facilities that have been put into use, strives to minimize the peak power, and also completely consumes the generated power, without waste or burden to the power grid. And through the intelligent distribution board, it will automatically switch to the distributed power supply using solar power generation system and battery in case of power failure.
Smart Power Grid Smart grid is a new generation of power system that realizes efficient, high-quality and reliable power supply by integrating distributed power supplies such as photovoltaic and user side information through information and communication technology on the basis of the integrated operation of traditional centralized power supply and transmission and distribution system. Smart grid is based on a strong grid structure, supported by a communication information platform and by intelligent control. It has the characteristics of informatization, automation and interaction, including all links of power generation, transmission, transformation, distribution, power consumption and dispatching of the power system, covering all voltage levels, and realizing the highly integrated integration of "power flow, information flow and business flow".

Yokohama Smart City Project (YSCP)

A new public-private cooperation organization, the Yokohama Smart Business Association (YSBA), was established in order to advance “from demonstration to implementation,” making use of the technology and know-how that has been fostered through the Yokohama Smart City Project (YSCP).
Yokohama aims to be an energy-recycling city that is environmentally robust, resistant to disasters, and economically strong, endeavoring also to expand use of its accumulated technology and systems both in and outside Japan.
